Repurchase Obligation Study

Repurchase Obligation Study

An ESOP Repurchase Obligation Study is a projection of an ESOP Company’s future cash flow requirement to satisfy the company’s legal obligation to convert the stock in employees’ accounts into cash upon the occurence of one of the following events:

  • Death
  • Disability
  • Retirement
  • Termination of Service
  • Satisfaction of the Diversification Requirement

A Repurchase Obligation Study is based upon assumptions about a number of actuarial and financial variables and should include multiple scenarios based on a range of key variables.

Like all financial obligations, the Repurchase Obligation should be budgeted for. Failing to do so can have a negative impact on the company’s stock values and could result in the company not meeting its benefit promises.
